Gunmetal 316L Stainless Steel Ceiling Shower Kit 30cm Head Long Arm Mixer

An austenitic stainless steel containing chromium, nickel and molybdenum. It is often called marine grade because it is used in humid and coastal environments. The material description refers to the stainless steel body; seals, cartridges and other working parts may use different materials.

316L combines corrosion resistance, strength and a surface that is easy to clean. Molybdenum improves resistance to localised chloride attack compared with common 304 stainless steel, which is useful around spray, humidity and salt deposits.

L indicates a low carbon content, which reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion in areas affected by welding. Manufacturing quality and surface finishing also matter.

Chromium forms a thin protective passive layer that can reform in the presence of oxygen under suitable conditions. Actual service life depends on the environment, installation, cleaning and maintenance; there is no single lifespan for every situation.

It is a good choice when used according to the model’s instructions. Marine grade does not mean corrosion-proof: concentrated salt or chlorine, standing water and persistent dirt can damage 316L. Remove deposits and rinse with fresh water, not pool water.

Use fresh water, a mild cleaner compatible with the finish and a soft cloth, then rinse and dry. Avoid bleach, chlorine-based cleaners, aggressive acids, wire wool and abrasives. Follow the manufacturer’s guidance for coloured finishes and for removing limescale from shower heads and nozzles.

Corrosion resistance does not stop water inside the shower from freezing. Before frost or prolonged disuse, shut off the supply and drain the shower as the manual directs. Use any protection or dismantling procedure specified for the model, and check seals and plumbing parts regularly.
